The Commonwealth Government, through the Department of the Environment (DE) has started work on updating the National Waste Report and Hazardous Waste in Australia.
The National Waste Report presents a picture of waste management and resource recovery in Australia, based on various commissioned research as well as information from the public and private sectors.
The latest iteration is expected to focus on waste generation, energy recovery and disposal for 2013 through 2015. The report is expected to be released late 2016.
Meanwhile, Hazardous Waste in Australia examines hazardous waste generation, sources and management by state and territory and nationally for 2014-15. It is expected to be released in early 2017.
Prior and following the election, major industry associations have called called for, and gained some support for a re-invigoration of the national policy on waste management.
